Donja Nasseri is a German, Egyptian and Afghan artist. Her work stimulates critical reflections on the intertwined histories and narratives that shape our understanding of (gender) identity, trauma and disruption. She focuses on reactivating materials from museums, archives and communities. For example, she wants to initiate a dialog about the effects of colonialism and the need for restitution and reparation. She studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, the Kunstakademie Münster and the TU Dortmund. Her work has been awarded numerous prizes, including the Chargesheimer Scholarship in Cologne for media art, Foam New Talent in Amsterdam, the Van Bommel Award in Venlo and a project grant in 2024 from the Friends of the House of Photography in Hamburg. She is also part of the FUTURES Photography platform for the years 2024 and 2025.
